Scar Reduction Treatments Overview
What Is A Scar Reduction Treatment?
A scar reduction treatment is a medical or cosmetic procedure aimed at minimising the appearance of scars. These corrective skin treatments can be used to make scars less noticeable, improve their texture, colour, or overall appearance.
Our Scar Reduction Treatments
The appropriate method of scar reduction treatment depends upon how it was caused in the first instance. For example, our acne scar reduction treatment is different from our injury scar treatment.
Once a member of our team assesses your particular scar and circumstances, we will be able to help treat you accordingly with view to achieving the best possible results.
It is usually not possible to completely remove a surgical, traumatic or post-inflammatory scar. However, it may be possible to considerably reduce the appearance of the scar and the surrounding area. This may be a complex process or may be very simple depending upon the age of the scar, its position, shape and size, as well as the cause of the scar.
The Procedure
At the first consultation you will be advised as to the recommended method of scar reduction treatment and the chances of getting a good result. We may advise you not to undergo scar reduction treatment, as we cannot reduce and improve all scars.
We can use a number of different approaches to reduce or correct a scar and the appropriate method depends on the nature of the scar, the amount of scar tissue in the surrounding skin, and where it is positioned. We must also take into account the patient’s expectations in terms of the end result.
Scar reduction treatment could include the use of a fractional laser to remove the top layer of skin & resurface the overlying skin. Steroid injections can be used to treat keloid scarring. Sometimes, complete excision of the initial scar to produce a more aesthetic and less noticeable scar is the best option.
Patients should understand that usually they cannot completely remove scars, but they can significantly enhance their appearance.
How Long Do The Results Of The Treatment Last?
Scar removal or reduction is permanent. However, certain scar treatments have limitations in terms of how much they can enhance the scar’s appearance. Some people want it to be almost perfect, while others are happy with a good improvement. How long the improvement lasts can also differ from person to person.
What Happens After The Treatment?
After the scar reduction treatment, you will need to follow post-care instructions provided by your healthcare provider. This may involve keeping the area clean, applying ointments or creams, and avoiding excessive sun exposure.
There are very little side effects but it is common to experience some degree of swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated area. These effects are usually temporary and should subside within a few days to a few weeks, depending on the treatment.
What’s The Price Of Scar Reduction Treatments?
Prices start from £200.
All patients have a medical consultation where the doctor will examine the scar and give a quote. The price depends on the complexity and number of sessions it will take to treat the scar.
