Collagen Induction Therapy Overview
What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
As the name implies this treatment induces the skin and its deeper layers to make large amounts of new collagen. This collagen can then lift and tighten and improve the skin.
Collagen Induction Therapy also has an anti-ageing effect. It enables greater absorption of stimulating growth peptide serums which nourish and improve the quality of the skin.
The Collagen Induction Therapy Procedure
Collagen induced therapy is an ideal treatment for patients who want to reduce the appearance of scar tissue. For example, you can lessen scars caused by acne.
The treatment stimulates the blood supply to the areas being treated. Thereby, encouraging new skin cell growth and repair as well as stimulating the production of new collagen.
How does Collagen Induced Therapy work?
Collagen Induction Therapy, also known as microneedling, works by creating tiny micro-injuries in the skin’s surface using fine needles. These controlled injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, prompting your body to increase collagen production and elastin fibres.
As the skin heals, it becomes smoother, firmer, and more even in tone and texture. Additionally, the micro-channels formed during the procedure enhance the absorption of topical skincare products, maximising their effectiveness.
What does the process involve?
To avoid any risk of infection, Collagen Induction Therapy must be performed under completely sterile conditions. First, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned and then we will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the treatment area of your face or body.
Once numb, a hand-held multi-needled medical roller device will then be rapidly moved back-and-forth across the area to be treated, causing the sterile needles to penetrate into your skin.
It normally takes about 30 minutes for the topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area, and a further 30 minutes to complete each treatment of Collagen Induction Therapy. You will need a short rest and can then be away, so you may be in the London clinic for about 90 minutes.
What happens after the procedure is finished?
There are minimal side effects to this treatment. However, right after the procedure, your skin will look quite red, but this redness should fade in a day or two.
Over the next few weeks you will start to notice the visible signs of skin regeneration and repair. You’ll notice a much-improved complexion, reduced appearance of acne scarring and more even skin tone.
How long do the results last?
The results of Collagen Induced Therapy typically last for months, but you may need follow-up maintenance treatments to keep your skin looking flawless.
