Collagen Injections Overview
Collagen is the magic ingredient that holds our skin together, providing elasticity and firmness, and we have it in abundance when we are young. In fact, our skin is composed of 80% collagen when we are younger, but after the age of 25 collagen production slows down significantly. Sun exposure and other bad habits can further deplete existing collagen.
We can see this reduction in collagen levels in the form of lines and wrinkles and sagging skin on our brow, around the nose and mouth and along the jawline.
All is not lost though; Collagen Injections can replenish our skin’s store of collagen, restoring more youthful contours and plumpness. Our Collagen Injections are composed of a collagen powder which, when injected into the dermis, stimulates production of fibroblasts, a cell that produces the connective tissues in the body including collagen.
Collagen Injections are used in a similar way to hyaluronic acid dermal fillers; they can tackle many of the visible signs of facial ageing that bother patients. This includes lines and wrinkles, sagging of the skin, loss of volume and changes to skin tone and quality and they are ideally suited to men and women who wish to tackle many of the signs of facial ageing.

2. At The Clinic
The consultation is an essential part of the patient journey as it gives us the opportunity to discuss your objectives and the outcome you’re hoping to achieve. We will talk you through the procedure or treatment plan, clearly explain any possible risks and the results you can expect, as well as answer all of your questions.
3. Your Treatment
Procedures at Wimpole Aesthetics are carried out under the direction of our medical director Dr Joshua Berkowitz and his team. We aim to deliver practical, safe and effective medical aesthetic alternatives to cosmetic surgery whilst always respecting a patient’s privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
4. Post Treatment
Our care and support continues after you leave the clinic. You are provided with comprehensive aftercare advice appropriate to the treatment you have received and we welcome patients getting in touch if they have any questions regarding their experience and results.

Are Collagen Injections safe?
Our Collagen Injections are safe with no side effects. It is also hypoallergenic, so you are unlikely to suffer an allergic reaction.
There may be some redness, swelling and tenderness at the injection site immediately after treatment, but this should disappear after a few days.
What happens during a Collagen Injection treatment?
The collagen is injected in tiny amounts into the dermis, using a very thin and short needle. Our medical director Dr Joshua Berkowitz will deliver the collagen into the treatment area and then gently massage the skin.
Generally, we recommend two to four treatment sessions, but Dr Berkowitz can provide a bespoke treatment programme after your consultation where he will address the extent of facial ageing and loss of collagen that has occurred.
What results can I expect from Collagen Injections?
For patients that have started to notice that their skin is not as elastic, firm or smooth as it once was, Collagen Injections can produce a very subtle but effective rejuvenation.
Typically, you will start to see the results after a week or two post treatment. After you’ve completed the treatment programme, there will be a noticeable improvement in skin quality and health. Results can last 12 to 18 months and then we advise you follow a maintenance programme.
