Last year, cosmetic surgery figures were released by the UK’s leading plastic surgery organisation and alongside a general rise, there was a massive increase in men and women undergoing liposuction.
In fact, women are increasingly opting for this body-contouring procedure, which rose by an impressive 43 per cent, as it is a highly effective way to eradicate those stubborn lumps and bumps that just won’t shift even when you undergo a rigorous diet and exercise routine.
Although less invasive than cosmetic surgery, liposuction is still a considerable investment of time and money so our lipo patients at Wimpole Aesthetics are keen to know how best to protect their investment.
Why should I exercise after liposuction?
During your liposuction procedure, fat cells are removed through suction. These fat cells are permanently removed but, if you gain weight, the remaining fat cells can expand and significant weight gain can cause the growth of new fat cells. So, it’s important to sustain a steady weight after your liposuction procedure to preserve your fantastic results.
How soon can I return to the gym after liposuction?
It’s not the case that liposuction is an alternative to healthy exercise; many of our patients are very committed to working out and are keen to know when they can get back into the gym. In fact, liposuction is not advisable for patients that have a large amount of weight to lose; it’s best suited to those who are close to their ideal body weight but are looking to achieve more sculpted curves or restore proportion.
Every patient is different in terms of how they recover and the extent of the procedure will also determine what exercises you can quickly return to. Our medical director, Dr Joshua Berkowitz, is always on hand to give advice, but generally we suggest a return to light exercise from two to four weeks post-procedure. Swelling can take many months to fully subside and it’s important to take that into account. Depending on the area of the body that was treated will also determine what exercises you can do.
